First impressions matter or so they say. And in the case of the Brooks PureGrit 6, it is hard not noticing some of the features. Definitely the most flexible shoe I have worn. Initially though, the material used for the mesh on top of the toe box did raise a few concerns about how well ventilated my toes would be. My only surprise after unboxing them was, well… as advertised, minimal heel-to-toe drop.

Taking the pair of PureGrit 6 shoes on a couple of runs did reveal a few more details. My slightly wide feet took a good hour to become comfortable on my first run due to the narrower-than-usual mid-foot section. And there... I found it, Traction! The outsoles do provide a good grip for a trail run. Those lugs work truly well and I was still able to feel some of the terrain features. Dry terrain, here I come! Somewhat muddy, here I come anyway – but I need a bit of practice.

Another interesting surprise was to find that the snug fit doesn’t allow for internal movement. While the heel counter is very low compared to some of my other shoes, this “movement restriction factor” was quite helpful and added some security to my step. Also, the upper mesh lived up to its promise and I was satisfied to notice very little moisture on my toes.

Overall, I am enjoying running with the PureGrit 6. They are light, they have a good grip and a snug fit. They are not as wide as I would have liked them to be but… for the average runner, they seem to be a good option. Did I mention the grip is very alluring?
